  Hi Sarah, It was so lovely to be back at the class last night , and though too late for woman's hour research gathering, I wanted to tell you how important your class is to me. Getting back to it tonight, after a long gap, made me realise what a huge difference it makes to how I feel, physically, mentally and emotionally. It's like everything falls into place and I feel energised and re-connected (to what I'm not sure? myself maybe!) and always unbelievably cheerful driving home (intense pain in ribs aside!!).

• I can't tell you what a difference it's made to my life having so much less trouble with my back - and even the flare-ups are short lived and don't send me into crisis mode anymore. My stamina for swimming and walking has hugely increased, reassuring me that aging isn't necessarily a downward spiral towards inactivity and weight gain! The classes also enable a sort of relaxation that I find hard to access for myself. I think it's something to do with being able to relinquish all responsibility and control for that hour, to listen to someone else's voice and follow instructions physically rather than mentally, and to tune in to all the largely ignored parts of our bodies. I often lie there on my mat gazing upwards with a fantastic sense of all the space between me and the ceiling, and that alone seems to bring about a lovely sense of well-being and lightness and relaxation. Sometimes I am so relaxed I almost nod off - so if you catch me not doing what the rest of the class is doing, then that's probably what's happened. I am aware that sometimes I have absolutely no idea what you have just told us to do! So after another period of pilateslessness I am looking forward to getting back to where I was at the beginning of December - feeling that I was really understanding how pilates works and how I was benefitting..
